Jon- Founder & Technician
Jon started Holdfast Marine in 2018. He is a Bellingham local who has been on the water most his life. Jon has run whale watching boats, guided kayak tours and professionally repaired boats for the past ten years. He lives-aboard a sailboat with his partner and understands why having a reliable vessel is important.
Chelsea- Technician
Chelsea has spent years on the water, guiding tours, working as a naturalist, and deck handing on commercial vessels from the Salish sea to Alaska. Chelsea holds a USCG masters license and enjoys recreational diving. They are currently
focusing on learning more about electrical and HVAC systems in the Marine Maintenance Technology program at SVCC.
Chelsea balances time working on boats with time spent in a community shared garden, raising goats and learning beekeeping!

Will- Technician
Will grew up in Bellingham where he gained an appreciation for all things mechanical and boat adjacent. He spent years as a merchant mariner serving on tugs, ferries, and cruise ships where he worked as an engineer. Without missing a beat, Will is capable of troubleshooting comprehensive marine system issues and have a detailed solution identified.
In his off time, Will can be found seeking out 'type II' fun out riding his dirt bike, dropping crab pots, and climbing up mountains with friends.
Grant- Technician
Grant joined Holdfast Marine in the Fall of 2022, after moving back to the PNW with his sailboat in tow. Grant completed a doctorate in Biological Oceanography, conducting oceanographic field research throughout the PNW, and is a Master Dive Instructor. Additionally, Grant is a mercury certified technician, and has experience with fiberglass fabrication and repairs. He is working to broaden his skills & knowledge of marine electrical systems & sailboat rigging.
In his free time, Grant plays music in bands, does underwater photography, and enjoys learning how to sail his own boat here in the Salish Sea.

Eric- Technician
Eric came to Holdfast in 2022, after retiring from a 28 year career as a fire boat captain as well as retired from the US Navy where he worked as a gas turbine engine technician. Eric recently graduated from the Marine Maintenance Technology program at SVCC, where he has dedicated himself to learning as much as he could about boat mechanics, especially enjoying the electrical side.
Eric's hobbies include working on boats & vintage cars, boating, traveling, hiking and spending time with family.

Oso- Office support
Oso is a Bellingham native, working in the office helping the ship sail smoothly. She comes with marine trade and small business experience via having started a marine canvas shop, commercial fished for salmon and tuna, and boating in the San Juan Islands. Oso continues to run a small industrial design/sewing business, and enjoys being up in the mountains year round, out on the water, and traveling abroad.
Drawing on everyone’s unique experience and dedication to maritime lifestyles, we are able to service any and all shipboard systems including electrical, electronics, engines, gensets, water makers, rigging, plumbing, painting, diesel engines, outboards, mechanical gear, fiberglass repair and everything in between.
Our Shop
New in 2023! our new facility is the largest indoor boathouse in the Colony wharf complex.
Located at 1001 C st within the Landings at colony wharf we have direct access to haul out facilities and heavy machinery to tackle any project. Our boat house allows us to keep working no matter the weather.
